At midnight, Divine – real name Vivian Wilson Fernandes – released Indian hip-hop’s most anticipated full-length record ‘Gunehgar’. What started on September 16th this year with a Hit-Boy assisted banger reached its pinnacle with the release of a full-length LP, massive guest appearances and avant-garde classic visuals.
The Gully Gang rapper and mogul paid his tribute to the Sidhu Moosewala on Stunnah Beatz-produced ‘Street Lori’. Joining forces with Wazir Patar – Moosewala’s protégé and the producer behind the late emcee’s ‘The Last Ride’ – Divine remembered the ‘Moosedrilla’ superstar who was shot dead in May this year. “Truth are my bars as if Moosewala wrote them / I rap as if Moosewala stands behind me / You get scared as if you just saw Moosewala / ‘Legends Never Die’ Moosewala is still alive (Rest in Peace Moosewala)” Divine raps on the Patar-assisted track.
Divine and Sidhu Moosewala had exchanged heavy bars on The Kidd-produced ‘Moosedrilla’ in May last year. ‘Moosedrilla’ was the sixth track on the late emcee’s star-studded sophomore album ‘Moosetape’ which featured guest appearances by UK’s Tion Wayne, Blackboi Twitch, Sikander Kahlon, Stefflon Don, Bohemia and more.
Divine had posted a photograph on IG ahead of Moosewala’s album release. Captioned “Studio Sessions”, the two emcees had teased a track together on what turned out to be one of the finest hip-hop LPs in Indian hip-hop.
After Moosewala was gunned down by unknown assailants on May 29th 2022, Divine had shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram remembering the hip-hop’s icon. “Asal street legend, asal sangeet se industry hilane wala, Moosewala. Legacy will live on forever ..I had one more song with u on my upcoming album and I’m here lost for words…love u and still can’t believe it” Divine wrote.
