Back in 2020, Kid Mescudi Scott – popularly known as Kid Cudi – and Jacques Bermon Webster Jr or Travis Scott had come together under ‘The Scotts’ moniker and hinted at a collaborative endeavour in the form of an album or EP together. The iconic duo went on to release a self-titled single on Fortnite.
Released through Epic Records and La Flame’s very own Cactus Jack, the single debuted at the top position on Billboard Hot 100 becoming the Houston-based rapper’s third number one single after Sicko Mode featuring Drake and Highest in the Room. Notably, ‘The Scotts’ was Cudi’s first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100.
However, Cudi has now confirmed that another project under ‘The Scotts’ is not happening and that “the moment has passed,” Cudi wrote on Twitter responding to a fan’s question probing the possibility of new music by two of the most influential voices in modern rap.
However, it doesn’t mean that a collaboration between Kid Cudi and Travis Scott isn’t happening anymore.
The two emcees and record producers are slated to release their separate projects though.
The iconic Cleveland-bred Day ‘N’ Nite emcee and lyricist Cudi released his eighth studio album ‘ENTERGALACTIC’ on September 30th, 2022. Released alongside its visual adaptation into a Netflix animated special, the 15-track record featured guest appearances by 2 Chainz, Ty Dolla $ign, Don Toliver, Steve Aoki and more.
Cudi performed at the iconic Zénith Paris – La Villette in France last night and teased a new piece of music with Playboi Carti.
“Since 2020, I have been recording a new album. When I dropped Man on the Moon III, I hit the studio and was just f***** around with some vibes, gettin’ into the groove and I don’t know when I’m gonna release my next album, I really don’t. But I do know what’s gonna happen and before then, I wanna kind of just give you guys some s***. Release some songs, get the vibes out there you know. and this is one song I have been sitting on for a while. It features my brother Playboi Carti,” Cudi said amidst his live set.
Last month, A new record from the legendary 808s & Heartbreak and My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy emcee Kanye West and Houston’s Hip-Hop bossman Travis Scott surfaced online. Titled God’s Country, the single has been previewed at least three times over the last two years but never released.
The single was first featured on Kanye West’s tenth studio album Donda when Ye revealed the LP’s tracklist. It further surfaced in Dame Dash’s leaked documentary on Kanye West in 2020. Most recently, Travis Scott previewed the seemingly Ye-produced track during his first live set since the unfateful Astroworld Fest in Houston – where at least 10 people had succumbed to accidental asphyxiation – at O2 Arena, London.
Hip-Hop listeners have begun to speculate whether the latest preview will get a spot on Travis Scott’s fourth studio album Utopia. The LP, which serves as the follow-up to Scott’s iconic Hip-Hop record Astroworld – is slated to release soon.
