After massive live sets by J.I.D., Post Malone and Offset across the Indian metropolis last year, Lollapalooza brought together some of the most influential figures in Indian and Global Rap and Rock music at the forefront in Mumbai. The long-awaited two-day festival featured hard-hitting live sets and a slew of icons taking over the stage at perhaps one of the biggest gatherings in the Indian music scene.
While the world’s leading rock music acts Imagine Dragons and The Strokes performed as headliners alongside K-Pop superstar Jackson Wang, Diplo, ZHU, Kasablanca and Alec Benjamin, Indian Hip-Hop brought massive heat to the festival too.
Some of the biggest performers to hit the Lollapalooza stage included Gully Gang’s bossman Divine, Punjabi Hip-Hop’s leading global artist AP Dhillon and the ‘Go To Sleep’ emcee Hanumankind along with his T.ILL Apes crew.
Notably, it was Lollapalooza’s first foray into Asia. The first Lollapalooza, held in 1991 in Arizona, California and New York featured Jane’s Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Living Colour, Nine Inch Nails, Fishbone, Violent Femmes, Ice-T’s Body Count, Butthole Surfers and Rollins Band. However, the festival has incorporated numerous genres under its belt including Hip-Hop.
Since its inception, it has witnessed performances by the biggest emcees in hip-hop including Eminem, Lil Baby, A$ap Rocky, Tyler the Creator, Playboi Carti, 21 Savage and more.
While AP Dhillon, Hanumankind & the T.ILL Apes performed some of their biggest rap records on day one of the Lollapalooza festival, Divine and Hip-Hop record producer Karan Kanchan teamed up to give a massive crowd the taste of their classic Gully Gang music. Imagine Dragons and The Strokes performed the headlining sets on day one and two respectively at the star-studded festival.
India is just one of the eight countries tapped by the Chicago-based festival in history. Besides India, Lolla has made inroads into Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Sweden, France and Israel.
