The Bronx emcee Ice Spice – real name Isis Gaston – has released her latest banger ‘Bikini Bottom’. Clocking at two minutes, the drill single has already begun doing rounds on social media.
At this point, it seems like anything that Spice drops will have a viral reception by the hip-hop audience. Earlier this year, Spice dropped ‘Munch (Feelin’ U)’ which solidifed the female rapper’s reputation as the next big thing in hip-hop and drill.
If Spice really blows up from NY to the world through her charismatic drill music, it won’t be surprising. It isn’t the first time that a drill emcee with uber-cool presence and a young persona has made it global from New York. The biggest example of this is Pop Smoke.
Pop Smoke, who began his career by relying heavily on grime and garage undertones amidst Brooklyn’s rising drill scene, caught worldwide attention.
Whether Ice Spice rises to global stardom or fizzles out as a one-hit wonder from here on is hard to tell. However, ‘Bikini Bottom’ does sound like a hard-hitting NY banger.
