Philadelphia’s iconic emcee and record producer Lil Uzi Vert, born Symere Bysil Woods, has confirmed new music with Playboi Carti. Amidst high anticipation for his third LP ‘Pink Tape’, originally slated to release in February this year, the young ‘Just Wanna Rock’ has teased and previewed music with Carti numerous times this year.

Even at the time of the February announcement via Reddit, Lil Uzi Vert confirmed that their third LP will have a Playboi Carti feature. During their Rolling Loud California Live set, Vert gave Carti his flowers and performed a slew of unreleased rap records – “He Ain’t Cra”, “Of course”, “City Girl Satan” and “Heartbeat”. “Shout out to Carti, we don’t talk hardly, but that’s where my heart be,” Uzi said amidst his massive live set.

However, Vert’s collaborative effort with the Stop Breathin’ rapper doesn’t come off as a surprise. In a Twitch stream in February last year, Vert even expressed his plans of releasing a ‘Sixteen X Twenty-Nine’ Mixtape album with Carti which reportedly has over 40 unreleased tracks.

Right after his performance at Rolling Loud California, Uzi Vert linked up with leading Hip-Hop publication TMZ for a brief interview. During the conversation, Vert revealed their plans for releasing their highly anticipated record. “I probably got like two more months left,” Vert said at the time.

Uzi Vert’s ‘Pink Tape’ LP was first announced in 2020. The release date has been pushed numerous times in the last two years. However, Don Cannon – the co-founder of Our Generation – recently revealed the crucial reasons behind multiple delays.

Comparing Vert to Hip-Hop’s tall figures Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, Cannon revealed that the young emcee has already recorded over “700 songs in the last 18 months” for the LP. This led to unprecedented anticipation on social media at the time.

“Right now, we working on the album and he got 680 songs [from the last] 18 months. I call him the Kobe Bryant when he was saying he used to shoot jump shots after the game. That’s what he doing. He give you a hit and do five songs a day. Nobody believe me. I bring them to the studio to see,” Cannon said during the sitdown.

“Sober, high, when he used to get high and now he sober doing it. Ain’t nothing changed. He one of them guys, and it’s different because you’re getting all different kind of songs out of him. You might get a rock song, a real rap song because he really rap, you might get the melodic shit that he do.”

“And that’s why I referenced Lil Wayne and them because Lil Wayne was the same. He’ll rap you to death, but he’ll still pull out a guitar and give you something.” Cannon continued.
