Atlanta’s legendary incarcerated emcee, songwriter and business mogul Young Thug, born Jeffrey Lamar Williams, has just premiered his new single. Titled “From A Prison”, the flagrant rap record arrives amidst his controversial incarceration at ATL’s Fulton County Jail and serves as he follow-up to his third rap album “Business is Business”.
Notably, this is the second such instance where Thugger has released music from prison. His sprawling studio album, which was later extended to a “Business is Business: Metro Boomin’s Version”, arrived rather infamously within a week after his YSL label mate and close affiliate Gunna shared his massive comeback LP “A Gift & A Curse”.
At the time, rap fans misconstrued Thug’s actions, which seemingly usurped Gunna’s album rollout, as a head on collision with the “fukumean” rapper’s return after he drew gnarled criticism for “snitching on Jeffrey”.
However, Thug’s father clarified last month that Gunna hasn’t done anything “that can harm us on this case”.
Just ahead of the single, Young Thug shared an exclusive “From A Man” artwork with his fans. Check it out below if you haven’t yet.
As per Genius, “From A Man” is produced by iconic Hip-Hop superproducer Turbo and might feature on Thug’s forthcoming 4th studio album.
Notably, during Thug’s “Business is Business” listening events across the U.S., 4 unreleased rap records were played. The tracks didn’t find a spot on Slatt’s most recent LP leading to widespread speculations about a 4th studio album in the works.
If an LP does arrive, it won’t shock many. Thugger is notoriously fast at turning in vocals and linking up with super producers who are equally as fast.
Record producer Metro Boomin, who served as the executive producer on “Business is Business”, took only two weeks to produce the entire album traversing 16 rap records.
