In an unprecedented endeavour to support India’s burgeoning underground rap scene, Mumbai’s coveted record label Mass Appeal India and superproducer The Kidd have joined forces with underground rapper Ranjha on a new breakout single.
Titled “Muqabala”, the single is produced by The Kidd, who further produced Sidhu Moose Wala‘s historic rap album “Moosetape” alongside marquee record producers including Steel Banglez, Snappy and Wazir Patar, and underscores the label & producer’s major support to Indian underground rap.
Notably, “Muqabla” and the young emcee behind it first caught attention after its preview at “Lehar – The Movement” – India’s pivotal community which showcases and supports underground rappers across Delhi & Chandigarh.
As reported earlier, the flagrant single arrives amidst the label’s expansive foray into Southern India, with Dabzee, Vedan and Baby Jean premiering their major label debuts “Manka”, “Kadha” and “Padachatta” respectively.
Besides the major releases from the south, the label recently joined forces with Punjabi emcee Jass Manak & Avvy Sra for “Garage”.
The huge single was preceded by various globetrotting records including AP Dhillon’s most recent “Problems Over Peace” alongside British MVP Stormzy, Raf-Saperra’s “5 Deadly Venomz” EP featuring BET “Lyricist of The Year” nominee and iconic N.Y. emcee Conway The Machine and Harlem’s Nas prodigy Dave East and “Street Dreams” by Indian rap royalties Divine & Karan Aujla.
