La Flame – popularly known as Travis Scott – is slated to headline the Art Basel Concert which pays homage to the late fashion designer and DJ Virgil Abloh. The concert, which is curated by Benji B and Virgil Abloh Securities, is slated to occur on December 3rd in Miami.
Even after his passing, Virgil Abloh continues to be one of the most influential voices in Hip-Hop and fashion. Abloh founded the streetwear brand Off-white and served as the first African-American director of Louis Vuitton. The legendary Hip-Hop mogul worked alongside Kanye as the creative director of Donda as well. The legendary fashion designer died last year ’cause of cancer.
“Virgil had the ability to bring everyone together to create magic,” Shannon Abloh, Virgil’s wife and Virgil Abloh Securities CEO said. “With his close collaborators, we wanted to bring everyone together to celebrate Virgil–his legacy, his passion, and his care for others. He believed his real work was championing others and we will continue his work supporting youth in the arts with the launch of the Virgil Abloh Foundation in 2023.”
Musically, Travis Scott and Virgil Abloh go way back. Virgil Abloh had opened for Houston’s iconic emcee during his Bird’s Eye View tour. Announced at the backdrop of Scott’s sophomore album ‘Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight’, it was one of the earliest tours by the Astroworld rapper. Abloh performed leading Hip-Hop records by Lil Uzi Vert, A$ap Rocky, Aerosmith, XXXtentacion and more in the lead-up to the concert in New York City.
