Brampton-born Hip-Hop superstar Tory Lanez – real name Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson – has been found guilty of three felonies in the 2020 shooting of Houston’s ferocious female rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
The Los Angeles jury convicted Lanez of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possessing a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. The incident sparked widespread conversations about the protection of Black women and gender politics in rap.
Lanez faces up to 22 years in prison and currently awaits his sentence.
The 27-year-old emcee from Houston, Megan Thee Stallion – real name Megan Jovon Ruth Pete – is behind some of the most influential records in modern rap including Savage featuring Beyoncé, WAP alongside Cardi B, Eazy-E’s Boyz-N-The Hood sampled Girls in the Hood and more.
