Minutes after Sidhu Moose Wala announced his posthumous effort ‘Mera Na’ with Burna Boy and Steel Banglez, Punjab’s Gangsta Rap pioneer and Moose Wala’s protégé Wazir Patar has announced his 5th EP. While the influential record producer fell short of revealing the EP’s title, artwork or tracklist, Patar has confirmed that his fifth project is in the works and drops “soon”.
In January this year, Patar released the ‘Some Memories’ EP. A massive departure from his signature gangsta rap, the four-track project captured Patar’s diverse musicality upon its release. Notably, the EP served as the follow-up to the ‘Enigma’ EP with Tarsem Jassar.
Produced by Patar, the EP has Jassar dropping ferocious lyricism over ‘Arsenal’, ‘Enigma’, ‘Feel’, ‘Roots‘ and ‘Why Black!’ Jassar’s latest collaborative effort with Patar transitioned from his constantly switching rhythms between Punjabi Hip-Hop and Pop Folk and delved deeper into hard-hitting old-school rap. Patar further cements the underlying Hip-Hop across the album with his groovy ad-libs.
Patar is one of the most prolific Punjabi Hip-Hop artists in the Indian rap scene and is behind influential rap records including ‘Keep It Gangsta’ EP with Def Jam Recordings India and a slew of hard-hitting tracks with Sidhu Moosewala including ‘The Last Ride’, ‘Malwa Block’ and ‘GOAT’. Patar rose to prominence with some of the most influential records in Hip-Hop early in his career.
Look out for Wazir Patar’s 5th EP this year.
