Hip-Hop pioneer and A$ap Mob affiliate Playboi Carti, born Jordan Terell, and rap music’s consistent hitmaker NBA YoungBoy are reportedly working on a joint album.
The announcement, which is yet to take shape officially, arrives amidst Carti giving YoungBoy his flowers after the Baton Rogue-born emcee teased the ‘NBA YoungBoy World Tour’ sporting an opium chain.
The photograph has now resulted in far-reaching speculations about one of the most unprecedented collaborative efforts in global rap music. While YoungBoy is recognised for releasing at least 33 full-length projects along with dropping 3 hard-hitting albums this year alone, Carti hasn’t dropped new music in almost three years besides a few guest verses.
Carti’s fans are anticipating new music from the “Whole Lotta Red” emcee after the legendary emcee teased his return in December last year. However, Carti fell short of releasing any new music of his own. The rapper continues to tease his return amidst high anticipation.
Most recently, Carti linked up with The Weeknd, Metro Boomin and Madonna on “Popular”. While it made a ‘whole lotta noise’ after Tesfaye previewed the record during Festival De Cannes, the track is far from being Carti’s best by any measure.
The “Stop Breathing” emcee’s guest verse on Trippie Redd’s “Miss The Rage” sits at almost half a billion streams on Spotify alone. For “Popular”, the chances of it reaching that number of listeners seems grim.
As for YoungBoy, the young emcee is fresh off his hard-hitting rap LP “Richest Opp”. The 17-track album, which served as the follow-up to YoungBoy’s “Don’t Try This At Home” LP released earlier this year, included the infamous “F*ck The Industry Pt. 2” track on which the “Never Broke Again” affiliate dissed Drake, J. Cole and Lil Yachty.
Look out for Playboi Carti & NBA YoungBoy’s joint album.
