On October 3, the Black Entertainment Television Hip-Hop Awards, oftentimes referred to as the BET Hip Hop Awards, went down at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta. The historic ceremony, which was aired across the globe earlier today and arrives amidst 50 Years of Hip-Hop, “recognized the genre’s present-day artists through awards and performances while honoring original innovators who made everything possible.”
While Kung-Fu Kenny, or Kendrick Lamar, led the way with four major wins – “Hip Hop Artist of The Year”, “Best Live Performer”, “Lyricist of The Year” and “Video Director of The Year” alongside Dave Free, Drake & 21 Savage took home the BET for “Album of The Year” and “Best Duo or Group”.
Further, Ice Spice won this year’s “Breakthrough of The Year” BET and iconic superproducer Metro Boomin was conferred the “Producer of The Year” BET in his own turf Atlanta.
The Fat Joe-hosted awards ceremony witnessed performances by woman rappers Sexyy Red, GloRilla and members of the female rap group City Girls.
Legendary rappers LL Cool J and Rakim paid an affecting tribute to the “I Am Hip Hop Award” honouree Marley Marl.
