American Music Awards 2022 – which were held at Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California – honoured some of the biggest names in Hip-Hop. The star-studded list of nominees included Future, Gunna, Lil Durk, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Kodak Black, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla.
Compton’s iconic emcee Kendrick Lamar took home the award for Favourite Hip-Hop Album for Mr. Morales & the Big Steppers. Lamar’s album contended for the award alongside Lil Durk’s 7220, Future’s I Never Liked You, Polo G’s Hall of Fame 2.0 and the now incarcerated rapper Gunna’s DS4Ever.
Further, Nicki Minaj won the AMA for Favourite Female Hip-Hop Artist against stiff competition from Cardi B, GloRilla, Latto & Megan Thee Stallion.
Future’s collaborative effort with Drake & Tems ‘Wait For U’ – the seventh track of his latest LP I Never Liked You won in the Best Hip-Hop Song Category. R&B superstar Chris Brown was awarded the Favourite Male R&B Artist. He competed with Brent Faiyaz, Lucky Daye and Giveon for the prestigious award.
