Long Island, New York’s legendary rapper LL Cool J – popularly known as the ‘G.O.A.T.’ – has changed his plans for releasing his 14th rap album. The ‘Rock The Bells’ emcee has announced that the record won’t come out ’cause it’s “too f***** good”.
The rapper took to Instagram to discuss his decision about the new record that “everybody has been asking about”.
“I was considering not putting the record out because it’s too f***** good.” LL Cool J said in an Instagram post. “Q Tip… you’re a genius baby. This is my favourite album ever made. I can’t wait for y’all to hear it.” LL Cool J continued.
Of course, it’s a gimmick by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame(r). However, this has set the anticipation for the upcoming record at an all-time high. As per LL Cool J, he is slated to drop the release date and the tracklist “soon”.
In January this year, LL Cool J announced his 14th rap album. Upon its release, it’ll be his first album in over eight years.
LL Cool J’s last rap record was released in 2013. Titled ‘Authentic’, the timeless Hip-Hop record captured the Hip-Hop pioneer in his sterling element. The LP consisted of some of the last rap records which drew deep-rooted influences from the old-school as the genre transitioned to a new modern form of mumble and trap-heavy sounds.
In a 2014 interview with HipHopVibe, Cool J dissected his wide-ranging perspectives on his influential discography. “Cultural albums, and then the ones that people will always like. The people connect with my cultural albums, as it connects with the streets. But, with this new album, I dealt with my man, Bim, and I got all kinds of artists on this album from Maino, Raewkon, Uncle Murda, and a lot of others because I wanted to give them opportunities to shine.”
