Indian Underground Hip-Hop’s influential tall figures DRV, Qaab & Darcy have linked up for a new rap record. Titled “First Time”, the hard-hitting single is produced by leading underground Hip-Hop producer Skyie and is reminiscent of classic ATL rap-influenced YSL.
The latest single arrives within a day after DRV teased the record across social media. Interestingly, the new single runs parallel to DRV’s sophomore LP ‘Nakshatra’ surpassing half a million Spotify streams. “First Time” stands out as an incendiary curation of classic Hip-Hop 808s next to provocative bass and effortless vocals.
Ahead of the release, Qaab revealed the exclusive artwork of his long-awaited single. Constructed from scratch through Open AI, the ‘First Time’ artwork goes in tandem with the emcee’s experimental rap discography. Check out the artwork here.
DRV is fresh off his single ‘Fark Nahi Padta’. With assistance from Sachin Jigar and Nikhil Paul George, the notorious passive-aggressive record serves as the lead single for Amazon’s original series “Farzi” starring Indian cinema superstars including Kapoor, Kay Kay Menon and Vijay Sethupati.
DRV’s feature in Amazon’s Original Series breathed a new life into Indian Hip-Hop’s burgeoning underground scene. Delhi-based influential Hip-Hop collective Gairkaanoni and J Bloc bagged top spots on Netflix’s original series ‘Class’ alongside “Empty” by DRV at the time.
For Qaab, the single serves as the follow-up to his affecting debut LP “Violette”. Released on March 25th 2022, the 14-track LP traverses Qaab’s prolific rap records including “Bandanalude”, “Prime Time”, “Scene Change”, “Anti Xan” and “Dbl Cups”. Further, the album features guest verses from Rebel 7, Harjas Harjayi, Smoke and more.
