Sunny Malton has released his latest single ‘Letter to Sidhu’. The track is an emotional tribute to his long-time collaborator and friend, the late Sidhu Moosewala, who was shot dead by unidentified gangsters in May this year.
This is Malton’s first release since the unfortunate death of Moosewala who, as per many, was one of the greatest to ever do it in Punjab’s hip-hop scene. After his death, Malton had expressed immense sadness at the loss of his “brother” and stayed away from social media and public appearances until now.
“Nobody will ever understand how great of a person you were. I wish I could sit here and tell the world about the conversations me and you had & everything we had planned for the tour & your trip back to your homeland Brampton. This was your home bruh, we were all waiting for you to come. Everyday we were on the phone figuring out our next move. Everything is incomplete without you now.” Malton wrote on the day after Moosewala’s death.
“The hardest part of all this is, I not only lost my brother but I also lost my favourite artist.” He continued.
Malton’s most recent track was with the late Punjabi Hip-Hop icon. Released on 25th May 2022, just a month before Moosewala was shot dead, Malton was featured on ‘Levels’. In fact, the two artists have released several hard-hitting records together including ‘Never Fold’, ‘F*** ‘em All’, ‘Youngest in Charge’, ‘Chosen’ and ‘B-Town’. Malton was featured on all of these records.
“l’ll never get to share that stage with you again. I’ll never be able to call you ever again. With so much to say, l’m lost for words. 5 months without you my bro has felt like a lifetime.” Malton wrote on Instagram before releasing ‘Letter to Sidhu’.
Directed by Jyothi Tatter, the track’s music video is an emotional montage of Malton’s tour life with Moosewala and rare behind the scenes showcasing their friendship and brotherhood.
