Legendary Pop singer Madonna and R&B emcee The Weeknd have premiered an epic “Popular” music video. Featuring an appearance by Atlanta rap superstar Playboi Carti, the timeless visual treatment arrives nearly 8 months after the Metro Boomin & Mike Dean-produced single was released last summer.
While “Popular” served as the sophomore single from The Weeknd’s upcoming soundtrack for “The Idol”, it also marked Carti’s massive return to East Coast rap music after two years and amidst unprecedented anticipation for his 4th studio album “I Am Music”.
Ever since “Popular”, Playboi Carti has released 5 rap records from his long-awaited rap LP – “EvilJ0rdan”, “BACKR00MS” featuring Grammy-nominated “FE!N” rapper Travis Scott, “H00DBYAIR”, Kanye West-produced “2024” and “Different Day/Ur The Moon”.
Notably, The Weeknd first previewed “Popular” during “The Idol” premiere at the Cannes Festival just ahead of its release last summer. At the time, the marquee single arrived alongside a massive visualizer featuring Lily-Rose Depp and Sam Levinson.
