Compton’s legendary emcee, director and songwriter Kendrick Lamar has finally premiered the massive “Not Like Us” music video.
Directed by pgLang co-founder & filmmaker Dave Free and K-Dot himself, the cut features cameos from various California figures including Tommy the Clown, Compton native and former Toronto Raptors All-Star DeMar DeRozan, record producer Mustard, and Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith.
Notably, the flagrant cut arrives within days after Lamar’s Los Angeles Pop Out concert. The massive concert, titled “Ken & Friends”, witnessed performances and acts by Tyler The Creator, YG, Roddy Ricch, Dom Kennedy, Steve Lacy and N.W.A. pioneering figure Dr. Dre.
Across the hard-hitting cut, which marks Lamar’s first in nearly a year, the Pulitzer prize-winning rapper takes numerous shots at Drake. The video starts with K-Dot doing push-ups on a cinder block referencing Champagne Papi‘s diss track “Push Ups”.
The cut further features Lamar’s wife Whitney Alford and his two children dancing together. The move references Drake’s diss track “Family Matters” on which the Toronto rapper alleged that one of Lamar’s children was fathered by Dave Free.
Notably, Lamar has previewed new music within the cut. The video opens up with a new rumoured single “I Am Reincarnated”.
