Kung-Fu Kenny, better known as Kendrick Lamar, won big at this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. The Compton-based emcee and lyricist won in some of the most significant categories in hip-hop such as Hip-hop artist of the year and best lyricist. Lamar also won the best hip-hop album of the year following the release of his fifth studio album ‘Mr Morales & the Big Steppers’. This is his third win in the category and has put him alongside Jay-Z and T.I. Notably, this is Lamar’s eighth win in the ‘Lyricist of the Year’ category, more by far than anyone else in BET’s history.

Lamar’s collaboration with Baby Keem on ‘Family Ties’ fetched him a BET for best Hip-hop Music Video. The Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper also took home the award for Best Video Director of the year with Dave Free and the Best Live Performer.

Following the release of Mr Morales & the Big Steppers, Kendrick Lamar has been on ‘The Big Steppers Tour’ with Baby Keem and Tanna Leone. This is his last project with Top Dawg Entertainment. “As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators.” Lamar had written on pgLang before the album’s release on May 13th, 2022.

The 2022 BET Hip-hop Awards were held on October 4, 2022, at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta. The ceremony was hosted by Fat Joe.
