Legendary Afrorap and Dancehall emcee and singer Burna Boy, born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu MFR, has released his 7th studio album. Titled “I Told Them…”, the 15-track LP features guest appearances from Dreamville‘s very own J. Cole, 21 Savage, the “Split Decision” rapper Dave, Sey Vibez and Byron Messiah.
The atmospheric pop record is released alongside a distinct magazine for “Afrofusion music”. Aptly titled “I Told Them Magazine”, the magazine’s first issue is now available for purchase and includes the LP’s CD as well.
Notably, the magazine “features never-before-seen content including a conversation between Burna Boy and RZA (of the Wu-Tang Clan) and articles written by his mother/manager Bose along with his grandfather (former manager of the legendary Fela Kuti), photos from throughout the making of the album and more.”
Just ahead of the album, Burna Boy linked up with Dave and released the “Cheat on Me” single. It was preceded by three Afropop records which now feature on the LP – “Talibans II” alongside Byron Messiah, “Big 7”, and “Sittin’ On Top of The World” alongside 21 Savage.
The “I Told Them…” LP serves as the follow-up to the Nigerian rapper and singer’s iconic Afrorap & Dancehall record “Love, Damini”. Following the historic success of his sixth album, Burna became the first African rapper to shut down U.K. and U.S. stadiums.
Earlier this August, Indian Hip-Hop pioneer Ikka teased a probable collaborative effort with Jamaican Afrorap emcee Byron Messiah. At the time, the veteran rapper was seen vibing and allegedly recording a verse on Messiah’s breakthrough record “Talibans”.
Messiah’s “Talibans II” remix which features a guest appearance from Burna Boy is in fact included on “I Told Them…” as a bonus track.
