Pop and R&B superstar The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, has released his highly anticipated single “Double Fantasy”. Produced by Mike Dean and ATL’s superproducer Metro Boomin, the hard-hitting single features a guest verse from Future and arrives after numerous previews across social media.
Notably, the record serves as the lead single to ‘The Idol’ – an upcoming drama series created by Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Reza Fahim, and Sam Levinson- original soundtrack. Slated to release on June 4th 2023 via HBO, the original Drama series stars Lily Rose-Depp, pop singer Troye Sivan, Mike Dean and The Weeknd himself.
As reported earlier, the Toronto-born singer, who recently linked up with Metro Boomin, 21 Savage and Rap mogul Puff Daddy or ‘Diddy’ on Creepin’ Remix, previewed the record during an Instagram live. The 17-second clip captured Weeknd amidst studio sessions with Mike Dean.
Besides the IG live, Weeknd crashed Boomin’s massive live set at Coachella and performed the track ahead of its official release today. Much like The Weeknd’s riveting discography over the years, the song explores hopeless romanticism, infidelity and sex. The “Dawn FM” singer’s extraordinary vocals are followed by an immersive verse from his “Mask Off” affiliate Future.
“We do the things, but we know it’s wrong
All on my skin, you all in my palm
I sent you an envelope, came with a poem
You possess venom, that came with a charm
You get the good out me when I perform
I know the bad in you, that’s what I want
And you a baddie, you turnin’ me on
Fiend for your demons, I know where this goin’
Love when you f***** me, talkin’, I know what you doin’
Caught up in love, what the f*** is we doin’?
Models and bottles with us, ain’t nothin’ to it
I tell you “I got you”, that’s well understood
Your legs on the bed, got your head on the floor
We go out shoppin’ whenever we get bored
We get it poppin’, leave nothin’ in the store
If I go to Saturn, I know that you goin’,” Future raps over the Young Metro & Mike Dean-produced record.
Further, the single is released alongside a stunning visual treatment. Featuring The Weeknd’s appearance from ‘The Idol’, the visuals provide the most vivid glimpse into the life of Tedros – the Drama series’ protagonist played by The Weeknd himself. Watch the visuals here.
