Albama’s hard-hitting woman rapper and songwriter Flo Milli, born Tamia Monique Carter, has released the visual treatment to her latest single “B.T.W.”. Coming in hot at just over two minutes, the flagrant record samples Too $hort’s iconic track “Blow The Whistle” from the Oakland emcee’s 16th rap album of a similar title.
Notably, Flo Milli joins a slew of rappers and record producers who have sampled or drawn songwriting inspiration from the Lil Jon-produced record. On June 3, 2016, Hip-Hop superproducer DJ Khaled linked up with OVO’s rap superstar Drake on “For Free”. The track, which served as the lead single to Khaled’s ninth studio album “Major Key”, sampled lyricism and cadence from the record too.
Most recently, another woman rapper Coi Leray sampled Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five’s 1982 single “The Message” on her breakthrough rap record “Players”.
Floski, as Flo Milli is oftentimes referred to, has established her stature as one of the most influential woman rappers on the come-up. Milli’s latest single was preceded by a star-studded collaborative effort with Maiya The Don, the “Do It Again” rapper 2Rare and Kari Faux on “Anything Flows”.
Last month, women rappers, record producers and filmmakers dominated the BET Awards 2023 with Latto, Coco Jones, Teyana Taylor and more winning across categories. Check out the winners at this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards.
