Within a day of announcing his sophomore EP “Middle Class Boys”, Kolkata, West Bengal’s hard-hitting emcee J Trix has released the lead single from the project. Titled “Gundagardi”, the ruthless rap record is produced by Trix’s longtime collaborator Subspace and features a fiery guest verse by Indian Rap pioneer Ikka.
Ikka’s feature on J Trix’s lead single is unprecedented but certainly not surprising. However, as reported earlier, the EP is slated to release through Indian Rap’s coveted record label Def Jam Recordings India.
Given the label’s longtime association with Indian Hip-Hop pioneers including Ikka, Badshah and Dino James, the star-studded major label release has stirred massive hype on Trix’s social media ahead of his EP.
Further, the legendary emcee Ikka remembered the late Punjabi Hip-Hop and Drill superstar Sidhu Moose Wala on the record. Ikka is one of the many emcees who continue to mourn Moosa’s death in Punjab last year.
The single arrives alongside a hard-hitting visual treatment, Directed by Tejas -Sujit and Aayush Tater, the “Gundagardi” music video is mired by Ikka’s avant-garde rap life and captures J Trix’s most ambitious project yet amidst his rising influence over Indian rap music.
This isn’t the first time that Trix has linked up with an Indian rap superstar ahead of a multi-track effort. In January 2021, the Kolkata-bred trap emcee teamed up with Kalamkaar‘s ferocious rapper Kr$na on “Bohot Sahi”.
The latest single serves as the follow-up to “Legacy” released earlier this month.
