Atlanta’s Rap Pioneer Gunna Drops First Studio Album Since Prison Release ‘A Gift & A Curse’

Atlanta’s Hip-Hop superstar and ‘Young Stoner Life’ or YSL’s influential emcee and songwriter Gunna has released his fourth studio album. Titled “A Gift & A Curse”, the 15-track rap record features no guest appearances and is his first full-length album since his prison release in January.

Notably, “A Gift & A Curse” serves as the follow-up to his 2022 rap album “DS4Ever” which featured various guest verses by Hip-Hop heavyweights Future, Drake, YSL-bossman Young Thug, 21 Savage and more.

However, Gunna’s latest album is more of a statement against the “snitching allegations” construed against him amidst the YSL RICO trial.

In January, Gunna linked up with Berlin-born Turkish emcee and record producer Ufuk Bayraktar for a guest verse. The single, titled “BRODIES”, arrived within days after ‘Wunna’ was released from prison.

However, it didn’t leave much impact and instead stirred criticism against the emcee for allegedly “snitching” against Thugger.

Gunna’s crucial rap record is released through Young Thug’s Young Stoner Life Records. It’s safe to say that differences between Gunna and Thug are beginning to fade.

The “A Gift & A Curse” LP includes the Turbo, Cam Griffin & Omar Grand-produced “bread & butter” released earlier this month. The record dealt with the public outrage that the “Drip Too Hard” emcee has been through ever since taking the ‘Alford plea’.

On the record, Gunna asserts that he was in fact misled by the district attorney into taking the plea and commented on several people’s response over the incident including Lil Durk and Young Thug.

Ever since being released from prison, Gunna has received misconstrued angst and far-reaching anticipation for new music. The rapper, who is recognised for his towering rap records including “pushin P”, “Never Recover”, “Life Goes On” and more, didn’t release a rap record in over a year.

Gunna’s latest album certainly arrives amidst testing times in Atlanta’s historic rap scene and has the potential to clear the air around his controversial stance during the RICO trial.

However, the ATL rap pioneer is here now. Stream Gunna’s latest LP “A Gift & A Curse” here via Spotify.
