Historic record label Def Jam Recordings is gearing up for an exclusive documentary on the “Mixtape culture” which celebrates 50 years of Hip-Hop across the globe and throws light on the crucial history of mixtapes and their relevance in rap music.
Titled “Mixtape: The Movie”, the documentary is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Mercury Studios and Saboteur Media in association with Def Jam Recordings and will first premiere on August 1st 2023 across the U.S. and Canada via Paramount+.
“Mixtape” will premiere on 2nd August 2023 in the UK, Australia, Latin America and Brazil – with further international markets to follow later in the year.
Reportedly, the documentary, directed and filmed by influential rap filmmaker Omar Acosta, will examine how mixtapes pushed Hip-Hop culture and rap music across the world and launched the affecting genre into mainstream pop culture alongside massive genres including pop, reggae, jazz and rock music.
As per Vibe magazine, additional appearances in the documentary include A$AP Rocky, Jeezy, Funkmaster Flex, Mister Cee, DJ Kay Slay, Bun B, Tony Touch, DJ Whoo Kid and Angie Martinez.
The “Mixtape” documentary is one of the various ways through which record labels pay homage to 50 years of Hip-Hop.
