South India’s Hip-Hop pioneer Irfana Hameed has exclusively signed to Def Jam Recordings India. The rapper behind some of the most distinct sounds in Indian rap is the first woman emcee to enter into a recording agreement with the highly coveted Hip-Hop label.
Recognised for her provocative vocal delivery and hard-hitting rap records including “Southside Menace”, “I’m Your King” and her debut “Ko-Lab” EP, Hameed was one of the earliest emcees to drop a record with Found Out Records – Universal Music India’s homegrown rap incubator which strives to encourage underground emcees and record producers across India.
Notably, the young emcee’s partnership with Def Jam serves as an avenue for a far-reaching collaborative effort with India’s influential rap figures. Since its inception in March last year, Def Jam Recordings India has released numerous affecting rap records including the ‘D’ LP by Dino James, ‘Go To Sleep’ by Bengaluru’s rap star Hanumankind, ‘Keep It Gangsta’ EP with the late Sidhu Moose Wala‘s protégé Wazir Patar, ‘You Know The Drill’ by Fotty-Seven, ‘Sheher’ by Raga and more.
