DJ Drama Confirms Mixtape With De La Soul, Lil Wayne’s ‘Dedication 2’ Digital Release & More on Rap Radar

Earlier today, Philadelphia-based producer and ‘Generation Now’ bossman DJ Drama linked up with XXL Magazine’s former Chief Editor and Rap Radar Podcast’s creator Elliott Wilson and veteran Hip-Hop journalist Brian ‘B. Dot’ Miller.

During his long-awaited sit down on Rap Radar, the DJ, born Tyree Cinque Simmons, confirmed another ‘Gangsta Grillz’ mixtape. Drama has revealed that he is working on a debut tape with Long Island, New York’s historic Hip-Hop collective De La Soul.

Recognised for their massive influence on classic jazz rap and extraordinary lyricism during the “golden age Hip-Hop”, De La Soul was formed in 1988 in NY and consisted of rap music’s earliest emcees Kelvin “Posdnous” Mercer, David “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur and Vincent “Maseo” Mason. Sadly, Trugoy the Dove passed away earlier this year.

Notably, the legendary record producer released a slew of Gangsta Grillz projects last year. Some of Dram’s biggest tapes in the last year included “I Still Got It” with Death Row Records Snoop Dogg, “D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape” with J.Cole & the entire Dreamville roster, “Gangsta Grillz: We Set the Trends” with Jim Jones, “Book of David: Gangsta Grillz” with Dave East and “Ma’ I Got a Family” with NBA Youngboy.

Last year, DJ Drama confirmed a Gangsta Grillz mixtape with King Push a.k.a Pusha T.

Further, Drama has confirmed that his sophomore Gangsta Grillz mixtape with Lil Wayne “Dedication 2” is slated to release for digital distribution. The mixtape, which is Weezy’s fifth tape, was released on May 22nd 2006 and featured Wayne’s affecting rap records including “SportsCenter”, “South Muzik”, “Where Tha Cash At” and Rick Ross-sampled “Hustlin”.

The announcement arrives amidst Wayne gearing up for his 14th LP “Tha Carter VI”. In February, Weezy linked up with Swizz Beatz and the late Mount Vermont, New York-emcee DMX on “Kant Nobody”.
