Delhi-based Hip-Hop pioneer Prabhdeep, recognised for vivid experimentation with rap music across his classic discography, has dropped the music video for his debut independent rap record “Thappad!”. Produced by Fantom and the “Tabia” rapper himself, the visuals arrive amidst his departure from India’s highly coveted rap record label Azadi Records.
At the time of releasing “Thappad” independently in April this year, our publication speculated that Prabh might have parted ways with Azadi and furthered Indian rap’s abrupt exits from massive record labels this year. Earlier this year, Dehradun’s iconic emcee Karma parted ways with Kalamkaar too.
“New phase in life, really excited to move forward with a different mindset. Got my own team finally. Fans who been with me for a while, I wanna thank you. We are going to build bigger from here on, with good intentions only,” Prabh said after confirming his exit from Azadi last week.
The hard-hitting visual treatment asserts Prabh’s growing influence in Indian rap music and ascertains that even though he’s independent, he won’t fall short of releasing cult records and deftly curated music videos anytime sooner.
In fact, the “Bhram” emcee has been making major moves across 2023 so far. In March, Prabhdeep linked up with top-selling rap artists including Kalamkaar’s bossman Raftaar, Seedhe Maut‘s Calm & Encore, GD 47, Ahmer and more on “Bhram Deluxe”.
The hard-hitting LP arrived after Prabh’s debut collaborative effort with Raftaar. Titled “PRAA”, the four-track EP is home to Indian rap classics “Trap Praa”, “Hello”, “Badnaam” and “Abbu”. The EP was followed by Prabhdeep’s avant-garde debut at this year’s Coke Studio Bharat.
