To honour Hip-Hop’s 50th birthday, India’s coveted rap record label Def Jam Recordings India has revealed an epic multi-city concert line-up. Reportedly, the label is slated to traverse Hip-Hop’s epicentres in India’s metropolis – Mumbai, Delhi & Bengaluru.
The massive concert, which is slated to occur on August 11th and August 12th 2023 across the major Indian cities, will feature sprawling live sets by a diverse roster of artists.
Reportedly, Def Jam Recordings India has linked up with hard-hitting Indian emcees and record producers including Delhi’s ruthless emcee Raga, Rawal, Hanumankind, Irfana, Chaar Diwaari, Bella, Killa K, DHP, “Go To Sleep” record producer Parimal Shais, veteran Hip-Hop artist Bobkat and Mumbai-based DJ Ishani.
As per many, the “50 Years of Hip-Hop” concert is perhaps the most influential and affecting tribute to rap music in India. Notably, Def Jam India’s massive multi-city concert announcement arrives within days after its global affiliate Def Jam Recordings revealed its plans for an exclusive documentary on the “Mixtape culture”.
Reportedly, the “Mixtape” documentary, directed and filmed by influential rap filmmaker Omar Acosta, will examine how mixtapes pushed Hip-Hop culture and rap music across the world and launched the affecting genre into mainstream pop culture alongside massive genres including pop, reggae, jazz and rock music.
Def Jam Recordings’ “Mixtape” documentary features rap’s numerous cult figures including Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, 2 Chainz, Big Boi, DJ Drama, Kid Capri, KRS-One, and more.
As per Vibe magazine, additional appearances in the documentary include A$AP Rocky, Jeezy, Funkmaster Flex, Mister Cee, DJ Kay Slay, Bun B, Tony Touch, DJ Whoo Kid and Angie Martinez.

While the massive “50 Years of Hip-Hop” concert features Def Jam Recordings India’s hard-hitting rappers including Raga, Hanumankind, Irfana and Bella, the label has caught Indian rap fans’ attention by involving Delhi’s fierce emcee and record producer Chaar Diwari and the “Tabla Faad” rapper Rawal.
Whether Rawal and Chaar Diwaari are gearing up for their major label debuts remains to be seen.
With the announcement, Def Jam Recordings India joins various Hip-Hop record labels and media behemoths who continue to unveil major “Hip-Hop 50” concerts across the globe.
Most recently, Jay-Z‘s towering rap record label Roc Nation linked up with PUMA for an exclusive Hip-Hop 50 mixtape too. Titled “Humble Soles”, the mixtape series will bring together Hip-Hop and streetwear through the record label’s hard-hitting new signees and rap record producers.
Further, Mass Appeal has linked up with Live Nation for a massive Hip-Hop 50 concert line-up.
Slated to go down at New York’s Yankee Stadium on August 11 this year, the concert will feature live sets by some of the biggest Hip-Hop artists of our times including Run DMC’s “Bottom of the Ninth…The Walk-Off” performance, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, A$AP Ferg, EPMD, Ghostface Killah, Lupe Fiasco, Slick Rick and more.
