California’s iconic music festival Coachella is gearing up for its 24th edition. Announced earlier this morning, the massive festival will take place over two weekends on 12 to 14 April and 19 to 21 April at Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. It will feature pop singer Lana Del Ray, Tyler, The Creator and Doja Cat as headliners.
Besides the three influential headlining artists, Coachella has further recruited Punjabi rap superstar AP Dhillon, Indian singer Sid Sriram, breakthrough rapper Ice Spice, legendary British rapper Skepta, Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely of the Playboi Carti camp, Lil Uzi Vert, Coi Leray and more.
Notably, AP Dhillon is the second Punjabi act to perform at Coachella. Last year, legendary Punjabi emcee Diljit Dosanjh shut down Coachella alongside marquee American rappers and record producers including Frank Ocean, Metro Boomin, Bad Bunny, Kenny Beats and more.
Dosanjh’s debut Coachella live set stirred far-reaching conversations across social media at the time. Notably, his massive performance marked the second such instance where a Punjabi singer shut down a major international festival.
Before Dosanjh, the late Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala performed at the Wireless Festival in London.
At the historic U.K. festival, which arrived within months after the “Chorni” emcee released his last studio album “Moosetape”, Moose Wala performed alongside numerous British and American rap royalties including breakthrough rapper Central Cee, Tion Wayne, Meek Mill, Gunna, Young Thug, Saweetie, AJ Tracey and more.
