In a recent sitdown with the eminent music and pop culture journalist Anupama Chopra, Punjabi Hip-Hop’s global superstar Karan Aujla discussed some of the key events that have shaped his highly successful career in music. During the conversation which lasted for just over thirty minutes, the ’52 Bars’ emcee talked about his relationship with Sidhu Moose Wala, the way he has navigated his global influence on rap music and writing ‘GOAT’ for Diljit Dosanjh.
During the interview, ‘Geetan Di Machine’ spoke about his vulnerability as an artist and his natural tendency to show love to fellow emcees and record producers since he “did not receive much of it” during his come-up.
Aujla further opened up about his infamous beef with the late Punjabi Hip-Hop superstar Sidhu Moose Wala. When asked whether he regretted what went on between them before his death, Aujla expressed his concerns and admitted that “it was not necessary to do all those things back then”.
“Everything that happened to Sidhu and his family just changed my perspective of looking at life and doing everything. “Like all that beefs and all of it… it just doesn’t make sense,” a self-reflective Aujla said.
Notably, Aujla isn’t the only artist who has mourned Moose Wala’s death. In fact, ever since his ill-fated gunning down, rappers and record producers across the globe have expressed serious concerns over the incident and paid their sincere tributes.
In December last year, Ms Chopra interviewed Diljit Dosanjh about his relationship with Moose Wala.
“Sidhu Moosewala worked immensely hard in his career. I don’t think that an artist… I’m telling you this as an artist myself, I don’t think that he could do wrong to someone. I refuse to accept it. He wouldn’t have such rivalries with anyone. so, why would anyone ever kill him?” Dosanjh said during the conversation.
Recently, Jazzy B, who is considered to be one of the earliest founding fathers of Punjabi Hip-Hop, discussed the ill-fated killing of Moosewala.
“People like Sidhu, he wasn’t a star. He was a superstar. Stars, I think, come every ten years. Superstars come after 100 years, bro. you know, I think we just lost a great talent, you know. This guy was only 28 years old and just imagine how he was gonna grow with his music, with his lyrics… you know representing the turban around the world. It’s a shame what happened but we still need to keep going and keep fighting for his justice,” Jazzy B said during an interview with Brits Asia TV.

The legendary Punjabi Hip-Hop superstar Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on May 29th 2022. Ever since then, Indian Hip-Hop has consistently mourned his loss numerous times. Considered by many as the most influential figures in Indian rap, Moosewala was behind classic Indian rap records such as ‘Moosetape’, ‘PBX1’ and ‘No Name’ EP.
