Punjabi Hip-Hop/Rap and Pop superstar AP Dhillon, born Amritpal Singh Dhillon, has returned after a brief hiatus. The legendary Punjabi hitmaker has linked up with his frequent collaborator Shinda Kahlon for a hard-hitting single “True Stories”.
Produced by multi-platinum producer Gore Ocean, the single arrives amidst high anticipation for AP’s new music after his Run-Up Records’ labelmate Gurinder Gill dropped his debut album “Hard Choices” earlier this month. Notably, “True Stories” arrives in an exclusive partnership with Mass Appeal India & AP’s Run-Up Records.
AP’s hard-hitting single, which draws influence from flagrant Latin rap and bass, is his first single in almost a year. As reported earlier, Dhllon’s last record “Two Hearts Never Break The Same” EP arrived on October 7 last year.
The EP, which swiftly rose to become one of the finest Punjabi records to drop at the time, was preceded by evocative Hip-Hop and Pop records “Summer High”, the “Hidden Gems” EP, “Ma Belle”, his sprawling debut “Not By Chance” and “Brown Munde” of course.
One of Dhillon’s earliest rap records, “Brown Munde” featured cameos by the late Punjabi Hip-Hop pioneer Sidhu Moose Wala, “Brown Boy” Nav, London’s superproducer Steel Banglez and Sunny Malton. The single established Dhillon, Kahlon & Gill’s stature as one of the finest Punjabi emcees on the come-up.
As for Mass Appeal India, Dhillon’s “True Stories” is certainly an unprecedented elevation in their catalogue of releases.
Most recently, the coveted label signed an exclusive record agreement with Mumbai’s rap star Nazz and dropped “Gully Ka Sher”. Further, the label is gearing for Kshmr‘s debut Hip-Hop LP “Karam” which reportedly features MC Stan, Seedhe Maut, Hanumankind, rap superproducer Phenom, Yungsta & more.
Last year, Mass Appeal India linked up with Indian Hip-Hop royalty Divine for his third LP “Gunehgar”. Released in November, the impact of the star-studded album is felt across Indian rap music to this day.
“True Stories” arrives alongside a provocative visual treatment. Filmed by Dave Laven, the record delves into Dhillon and Kahlon’s incendiary rap life amidst their rise to far-reaching prominence across the globe.
